Grass Shortage for Horses!

Published in

Pastor Blas and Nonoy (our cowboy) notified me yesterday of an URGENT problem.
We have a serious grass shortage at and around the areas of our property!

When we purchase horses we keep them on our property for 30 - 60 days so they can be dewormed, receive necessary medications, quality grass and training to improve their health and get them ready to be presented to tribal pastors.

Each day the horses are taken into adjacent properties where they are tied up so they can graze napier and other very high quality grasses.  The grass on our property is abundant but does not have the necessary qualities for healthy horses.
Our leased property is situated in an area where it is very good for agriculture and crops such as rice, corn and sugar cane.  The present problem is that the areas we take our horses to have been cultivated for corn, and other areas where the grass is sporatic is located in crop areas where the horses would also eat the crops which would create a huge problem with the farmers in the area.

We presently have 9 horses on our 1 hectare property.  2 of them are juveniles (not ready for another year) 2 pregnant brood mares, 1 mare ready to give birth so she can't be presented to a tribal pastor at this time, and 1 training horse.  The remaining 3 horses are trained and ready to go to pastors this Sept 25th :)  Thus there will be 6 horses on our property for at least a year.

What also makes this an urgent problem is that we have a tentative donation of TEN more horses! These horses will also need to go through a minimum of 30 days on the property!  We hope to present these horses to pastors when Ron arrives through October and the first of November.

Working toward a Solution!
Today we fenced an area on the property and cultivated it.  Over the next few days we will be planting napier grass.  However, it will take about 90 days before we can harvest on a daily basis.  Until then we have to seek a temporary way to get grass.

Several options are being reviewed presently and we will send out another newsletter when we have identified them.
One thing is for sure....  any option we need presently will require additonal funding.

Please stand in prayer with us as we work towards solving this urgent problem...

Blessings in Jesus Name!
